Cochrane District Services Board Breaks Ground on Cadence Expansion Project in Cochrane, ON

Cochrane, ON – In the afternoon of June 16, 2025, the Cochrane District Services Board (CDSB) broke ground on the Cadence Senior Residence Expansion Project in Cochrane, Ontario. This project, approved in August 2024, represents a significant step forward in meeting current and future seniors housing needs in the Cochrane District.

The expansion will see the addition of 28 additional one- and two-bedroom suites through the creation of a new wing of the existing facility. Cadence Residence, which opened its doors in 2015, currently offers 31 modern suites with an additional guest suite for visiting loved ones. Cadence offers independent seniors housing with the provision of light supports including meals and light housekeeping.

With an aging population and a growing number of seniors seeking independent housing with supports, the demand for accessible, affordable housing continues to grow. The current waiting list for Cadence Residence reflects this urgent need, underscoring the importance of continued investment in seniors housing infrastructure across the Cochrane District.

“This project is more than just bricks and mortar—it’s about building a future where seniors are supported, valued, and empowered to age in place with dignity,” shares Brian Marks, Chief Administrative Officer at the Cochrane District Services Board. “The expansion of Cadence Residence reflects our commitment to creating inclusive communities that meet the evolving needs of the people we serve.”

“Housing is more than just a roof over someone’s head—it’s about creating a community where people feel safe, supported, and connected,” adds Lindsay Cumming, Director of Housing at the Cochrane District Services Board. “The expansion of Cadence Residence will help us meet the needs of more seniors in the Cochrane District and continue to deliver on our commitment to quality housing.”

In attendance, to join CDSB staff, Cadence residents and the community in celebration was Minister Raymond Cho, Ontario Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

Engineering firm CGV, the firm responsible for the initial construction of Cadence Residence, will lead the expansion. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2026.
