Paramedic Services

Present Service

The CDSB first began direct delivery paramedic services in 2001 in Timmins and South Porcupine. Following 2001, the CDSB began to direct deliver ambulance services in the following communities: 

  • Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Matheson – 2003
  • Smooth Rock Falls – 2007
  • Hearst – 2017
  • Kapuskasing – 2023

The Mattice First Response Team operates from the municipal offices located in that community and receives operational support and direction from the CDSB.

Paramedic Staff

Each of the 72 full and 23 part-time paramedics are fully certified primary care paramedics. Every paramedic is an integral part of the Cochrane District’s Emergency Preparedness Team (ERT). 

Cochrane District paramedics are highly skilled, compassionate professionals trained to provide emergency medical treatment and transport sick and injured people.

The Timmins and South Porcupine bases operate on 12-hour shifts from 06:00 to 08:00. There are also two 12-hour night shifts.

Timmins and South Porcupine are home to 20 full time and 30 part time paramedics.

The Matheson base operates on 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 7:00 to 19:00 with on-call for the 12-hour period after.

The Iroquois Falls base operates 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 7:00 to 19:00 with one Paramedic on-site and one on-call from 19:00 to 7:00.

The Cochrane base operates 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 07:00 to 19:00 and 12 hours per night from 19:00 to 7:00.

The Smooth Rock Falls base operates 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 07:00 to 19:00 with on-call for 12 hour period after.

The Kapuskasing base operates 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 07:00 to 19:00 and 12 hours per night from 19:00 to 7:00.

The Hearst base operates 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 7:00 to 19:00 with one Paramedic on site and one on-call from 19:00 to 7:00.
