Paramedic Services

Present Service

The CDSB contracted with existing service providers across the District of Cochrane for a period of one year. On January 1, 2, the CDSB commenced direct delivery of ambulance services in Timmins and South Porcupine, the largest services within the District.

On October 1, 2003, the CDSB commenced direct delivery of ambulance services in the communities of Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Cochrane. In December 2005, CDSB overtook the Smooth Rock Falls ambulance service as well.

The CDSB continues to contract with hospital-based services located in Kapuskasing. The Mattice First Response Team operates from the municipal offices located in that community and receives operational support and direction from the CDSB.

Paramedic Staff

Each of the 71 full and part-time paramedics in direct delivery, as well as the 11 paramedics in the contracted service, are fully certified primary care paramedics. The 92 paramedics and 6 Commanders form an integral part of the District of Cochrane’s emergency preparedness team.

Cochrane District’s paramedics are highly skilled, compassionate professionals trained to provide emergency medical treatment and transport sick and injured people.

Timmins has 3 ambulances that begin staggered 12 hour shifts from 06:00 to 08:00. There are also 2 12 hour night shifts. As the largest center, Timmins is home to 20 full time staff as well as most of our 30 part time staff members.

The Matheson Station is staffed 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 7:00 to 19:00 with on-call for the 12 hour period after. Matheson is staffed by 4 full time paramedics.

The Iroquois Falls Station is staffed 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 7:00 to 19:00 with one Paramedic on site and one on-call from 19:00 to 7:00. Iroquois Falls is staff with 6 full time paramedics.

The Cochrane Station is staffed 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 07:00 to 19:00 and 12 hours per night from 19:00 to 7:00. Cochrane is staffed with 8 full time paramedics.

The Smooth Rock Falls Station is staffed 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 07:00 to 19:00 with on-call for 12 hour period after. Smooth Rock Falls is staffed with 4 full time paramedics.

The Kapuskasing Station is staffed 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 07:00 to 19:00 and 12 hours per night from 19:00 to 7:00. Kapuskasing is staffed with 8 full time paramedics.

The Hearst Station is staffed 7 days per week, 12 hours per day from 7:00 to 19:00 with one Paramedic on site and one on-call from 19:00 to 7:00. Hearst is staff with 6 full time paramedics.
